Quickstart

  1. If you haven't already, register an Alveo account. It may take a few moments to be approved.
  2. Point your browser to the Alveo Transcription Tool.
  3. Log in.
  4. Activate the Download Alveo data button.
  5. Select an item list. To create item lists, you'll need to head to the Alveo application website and create a list from one of the collections.
  6. On the transcription tool, select an item.
  7. (Optional) Change audio source.
  8. Activate the Transcribe button.
  9. (Optional) Activate the Autosegment button. This may take a moment depending on the size of the audio file, but it will save you from having to segment every single part of the item manually.

Notes

  • Add new regions by clicking and dragging on the waveform.
  • Regions can be dragged around on the waveform to change both the start and end position.
  • Regions start and end position can be resized by dragging the borders of a region.
    • The Esc key will replay a selected annotation.
    • The Tab key will go to the next caption.
    • The Shift-Tab key combination will go to the previous caption.
    • The Delete key will prompt you to delete the currently selected caption.
  • You can export the transcription in CSV or JSON. Transcriptions cannot yet be imported.
  • The transcription tool caches data as you go, and will not require an active internet connection for cached data when re-using it in the future.
  • At this time, transcriptions are saved in the web browser storage. If you are logged in, your data will be synchronised automatically with the Alveo Transcriber Services (ATS). Data can also be synchronised across devices if it has been synchronised successfully to ATS. If you have not authenticated, data will only be saved locally.
  • If you are logged in and have been synchronising your data, you will be able to make use of the Alveo Transcriber Services (ATS) revision system. You can select Change at the top right corner next to Current revision to engage this system. From there, you can select a previous (or later) revision to go back to, if you have made a mistake or if something peculiar has happened to your current revision.
