GeoCoach is an educational Chrome Extension designed to help users learn geography and improve their location recognition skills through AI-assisted analysis.
It acts as a virtual tutor, analyzing Google Street View™ scenes to explain visual cues (flora, architecture, road markings) that help identify regions.

- Terms of Service Compliance: The developers of GeoCoach strongly condemn the use of this tool in competitive environments, ranked games, or leaderboards. Using external assistance in competitive modes violates the Terms of Service of most geography gaming platforms. You generally agree to use this tool ONLY in Single Player modes, "Streaks", or unranked challenges for personal learning.

- 🤖 AI Analysis: Uses advanced Vision AI (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini) to describe the scene.
- 🎓 Didactic Reasoning: Explains why a location is likely (e.g., "The yellow center line and tropical vegetation suggest...").
- 🔄 Auto-Clear: Automatically clears previous location markers when a new round starts (configurable in Settings).
- 📍 Ground Truth: Shows the actual location marker labeled as "Ground Truth" for immediate feedback after you guess.
- 🙈 Spoiler-Free Learning: By default, the tool hides specific country names and coordinates, encouraging you to deduce the location yourself based on the clues provided.
- 🔑 Key Hints: Highlights educational "meta" clues (e.g., unique utility poles, license plate formats) known to geography enthusiasts.
- 🗣️ Multi-Language Support: Learn in your native language (English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, etc.).
This extension is distributed as a source package to be installed manually in Developer Mode.
- Download the latest source code (ZIP file) from the Releases page and unzip it.
- Open Chrome or Edge and navigate to
chrome://extensions/. - Enable Developer mode using the toggle switch in the top right corner.
- Click the Load unpacked button that appears.
- Select the unzipped folder containing the extension files (where
manifest.jsonis located). - The extension should now appear in your list and be ready to use!
GeoCoach requires you to bring your own API Key. Your key is stored locally on your device.
- Open the extension Side Panel by clicking the GeoCoach icon in your browser toolbar.
- Click on the Settings (gear icon) button.
- API Key: Enter your key (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini).
- Language: Select your preferred learning language.
- Auto-Clear: Enable to automatically remove old pins when a new location is loaded.
- Local Processing: Your API keys and preferences are stored securely in your browser's local storage (
chrome.storage.local). - No Tracking: This extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personal user data, IP addresses, or usage statistics to the developers.
- Direct Communication: Images are sent directly from your browser to your chosen AI provider (e.g., OpenAI) solely for analysis. No middleman servers are used.
