prosumer
We are pretty sure that we need something to represent a prosumer. That is, something which interacts with the electricity grid in a very concrete way as either a source or sink of power. In the wider context, they are the atomic unit of prosumption.
The main reason we need to include prosumers in a wider eco-system is because we would like to do two things:
- Predict the future
- Influence the future
Predicting the future implies we need to be able to get information from prosumers about how they expect/intend to operate. This is purely in terms of their individual prosumption. Influencing the future implies we need to be able to give information to prosumers (request given behaviour) which they will potentially act on.
Specifying what information is contained in this communication is a critical task. It should be as generic as possible so the task of specifically understanding individual hardware is kept as an implementation detail. The information passed around should as far as possible only pertain to predicting and influencing how equipment operates as a source/sink of electrical energy.
