Is it possible to use this without any external hardware? #31

I apologize if this is a stupid question but I'm trying to use this project for my own twitch chat using my own code because I prefer using my own code running on my own computer rather than the website. I haven't tried using the twitch plays website but from the looks of it you don't need hardware? so I was just wondering if the same is possible for personal use? Sorry again if this is a dumb question, since I'm not very good at understanding big projects.
