Unable to run / compile / install in Openfoam

I am using OF v2012 to run libacoustics. I need help in its correct installation and have FFTW installed on my system too. However, wmake command does not work. Kindly help me in resolving it. A step-by-step guide would be appreciated.

Hi @Pranay1004 , it looks like there are problems with FFT installation. Also, I would recommend you to use the latest version of libAcoustics (for OpenFOAM 2112).

Just install libfft on your linux machine and point to it's library with -l and -L flags in Make/options files as usually

I had a the same error trying to install the libAcoustics with the pre-compiled OpenFOAM2412 version.

Try the following:
Open the libAcoustics in your terminal and switch to the branch v2412. Inside this directory, you will see a file called makeLibrary.sh. Fire up the openfoam terminal typing openfoam2412, so that you have access to the OpenFOAM environment variables and wmake.

I noticed that the command: echo $WM_THIRD_PARTY_DIR returned "/usr/lib/openfoam/openfoam2412/ThirdParty",which is correct. However, echo $FOAM_EXT_LIBBIN was empty. This means that my OpenFOAM might not be configured to find external libraries, so it won't find FFTW, even if it is installed in your system.

I know I have this library installed on my machine by running: dpkg -l | grep fftw
We can also check their location via:

find /usr -name "fftw3.h"              # /usr/include/fftw3.h                                                 
find /usr -name "libfftw3.so"        # /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfftw3.so

It seems that libAcoustics uses some configurations from OpenFOAM, so it might be necessary to change some files inside your OpenFOAM project. Here is what I did:

Open the following file $WM_PROJECT_DIR/etc/config.sh/FFTW. You will see a line such as:

export FFTW_ARCH_PATH=$WM_THIRD_PARTY_DIR/platforms/$WM_ARCH$WM_COMPILER/$fftw_version

Comment this line and add:

export FFTW_ARCH_PATH="/usr"

This will force OpenFOAM to search for the FFTW lib in /usr directory.

Now, reactivate the OpenFOAM terminal:

source $WM_PROJECT_DIR/etc/bashrc

and try to compile again:

bash makeLibrary.sh

ANOTHER ERROR

After that, the error was gone, but I had another issue with g++ not finding the stdlib. I'm using gcc and g++ version 9.4.0.
The error was something like:

/usr/include/c++/9/cstdlib:75:15: fatal error: stdlib.h: No such file or directory
   75 | #include_next <stdlib.h>
      |               ^~~~~~~~~~
compilation terminated.

I do have the developer packages installed (libc-dev or build-essential), so this error should not be happening. Indeed, I can compile C++ codes normally. So, to fix this issue, I had to manually force OpenFOAM to find the libraries:

export CPLUS_INCLUDE_PATH=/usr/include/c++/9:/usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/c++/9:$CPLUS_INCLUDE_PATH
bash makeLibrary.sh

With these steps, the library compiled just fine!
