Hello there!! I'm @thompsondt, opening up this discussions area. Here's why I selected GitHub Discussions over opening a Slack Workspace, Discord Server, or some other channel for communication.

1. It's searchable (indexed by search engines)
2. It supports persistence. Information can live, in an organized and structured fashion, past the shorter lifespan of a Slack or Discord conversation.
3. It invites casual contributors (non-developers, mappers, UX enthusiasts) to participate without technical barriers. GitHub Issues can be intimidating and are more geared towards capturing and breaking down work items.
4. Synchronous or near-synchronous collaboration regarding living issues on the issue board can still occur via Slack or Discord, whichever suits the preferences of the community.

Thoughts? As collaborators, think about other projects that you've participated in recently. What tools or standards elevated communication and collaboration on your team?
