How query are realy done

Hi,

There is a thing that missing in thanos documentation. We don't know what he really do on a query. I mean from the frondend to the prometheus what append ?

I want to understand how it is working to be more efficient on query and "partitionning" of metrics.

For exemple what does pre-filter ? If we understand what he does, we will be more efficient on query.
