The old pdksh shell included in APE does have some problems - some configure scripts refuse to run with it. In addition to this, there are several test scripts etc that expect bash. One can be critical about those "bashisms", but that is the reality and the fundamental ideology of APExp is to adapt to the de facto standards to make the user experience as friction less as possible.
