Three years ago I needed DDNS for my homelab. What I found wasn't technical limitations—it was business decisions disguised as "technical necessities":

• Email confirmations every 30 days or they delete your account
• Custom domains? Only if you pay

• Artificial limits on features that literally cost pennies

I add: infrastructure too.

Dynamic DNS has existed since 1997 (RFC 2136). The technology hasn't fundamentally changed in 28 years. What changed is how the industry monetized it.

Email confirmations aren't technical necessities. Domain limits aren't infrastructure constraints. They're product decisions.
