👋 Hey, I'm Andrea

Italian developer. I maintain open-source security and infrastructure tools used by 100,000+ people.

My mission? Prove that infrastructure doesn't need to be a paywall.

🚀 ApertoDNS: why I built it

Three years ago I needed DDNS for my homelab. What I found wasn't technical limitations—it was business decisions disguised as "technical necessities":

  • Email confirmations every 30 days or they delete your account
  • Custom domains? Only if you pay
  • Bulk operations in the API? Don't exist
  • Artificial limits on features that literally cost pennies

So I built ApertoDNS. The first Dynamic DNS that works like it should:

Bulk Operations API > update hundreds of domains in one call.

CLI on NPM > npm i -g apertodns and it works everywhere. No bloated desktop apps.

Unlimited custom domains > bring your own domain, zero hidden costs.

Zero periodic confirmations > never. Not even after 10 years.

Granular API scopes > surgical control over who can do what.

IPv4/IPv6 native > built for homelab, IoT.

The principle is simple: if something is technically a commodity (like a DNS record, like an API call), it shouldn't be monetized. It should be included.

🔐 Track record: Headers Security Advanced

Before ApertoDNS I built and still maintain Headers Security Advanced & HSTS WP, a WordPress security headers plugin.

100,000+ active installations. 1.3 million downloads. 100% free, no premium tier, ever.

Thousands of websites are more secure because of this plugin. And it will stay free forever.

💡 Why sponsor?

I don't do paywalls. I don't do "premium features". I don't sell what should be free.

But keeping infrastructure online, developing features, maintaining existing projects, and supporting the community takes time and resources.

Your sponsorship helps me sustain this work without compromising the philosophy behind it.

If you find value in what I build—if you use ApertoDNS for your homelab, if your website is protected by my WordPress plugin, or if you simply believe infrastructure should be accessible to everyone—consider sponsoring.

Not because I'll lock features without it.

Because you believe in keeping them free for everyone.

🎯 What I'll never do

I'll never paywall core features based on sponsorship levels.

I'll never add periodic confirmations to force upgrades.

I'll never create artificial limits on commodity features.

I'll never do "freemium" where the free tier is deliberately unusable.

I'll never sell user data.

My commitment: projects stay free whether I have 0 sponsors or 1,000. Your support determines how much time I can dedicate to them, not what features exist.

🌍 Philosophy: Information + Infrastructure wants to be free

Aaron Swartz wrote: "Information wants to be free."

I add: infrastructure too.

Dynamic DNS has existed since 1997 (RFC 2136). The technology hasn't fundamentally changed in 28 years. What changed is how the industry monetized it.

Email confirmations aren't technical necessities. Domain limits aren't infrastructure constraints. They're product decisions.

ApertoDNS proves you can do it differently.

💖 Thanks

If you believe infrastructure should be accessible to all.

If you've found value in one of my projects.

If you want to see more open-source tools without paywalls.

Your sponsorship makes a difference.

Not to unlock features. To sustain the work that keeps them free for everyone.

No Walls. Just Code.
