[bug] Ask rendering performance on Safari is poor

Describe the bug

On safari, ask threads (especially long ones) can render extremely poorly, often times resulting in the page crashing.

To reproduce

1. Create a long (e.g., >5 Q/As) ask thread in Safari
2. Observe a degradation of performance as compared to chromium.
