here is an SVG animated birb. (it's really a multi frame svg animation, maybe 6-8 total frames. I'd recommend something simpler that leverages CSS transitions.)

I wouldn't say go that far, but perhaps there is some inspiration there for a v shape slowly morphing to a ^ to imitate flapping wings? that may be enough to create birbs for my purposes. :)
