Typing delayed at fish shell prompt after reattaching

What happened

I detached at a fish shell prompt (using shpool detach because of #278). After reattaching, my typing was delayed for a few seconds before appearing on screen.

This doesn't always happen (sometimes my typing shows up immediately after attaching). However, once it starts happening for a given session, it happens every time I detach and reattach the same session.

What I expected to happen

My typing should appear immediately as I type.
