Approach

1. Discuss/decide on exact business logic and output for each of these 3 reports
2. Construct SQL queries and export directly to CSV from any MySQL client
3. Refactor/port the logic within the SQL queries to the API (Sequelize+Node+GraphQL) to be exposed as mutations
4. Implement UI to generate the reports directly

Report 1: Project Allocations

This report generates insights on activity for a single project in a given time frame (default to last year, 2021-01-01 to 2021-12-31).

The output CSV file should contain all Allocations created for that project in the given time frame

• Add Project Name as a header at the top of the file
• Generate table data as shown below
• Separate Funded Allocations from Proposed Allocations (missing payment_id)
• Sort records by start_date

Report 2: Client Performance

This report generates insights on how payments made by a Client are allocated across all projects in a given time frame (default to last year, 2021-01-01 to 2021-12-31).

Bitcoin Lightning integration

Approach

• We could use the external_uuid and external_uuid_type on the Payments table OR create a new table
• Need to handle expiring Lightning invoices
• Check maximum Lightning invoice length and ensure the column that stores it is big enough (currently varchar(255))
• Use an API key generated on BTCPayServer and configure the Trinary server to generate invoices+addresses
• When a payment is detected on BTC/LN, we want to configure a Webhook so BTCPayServer can notify Trinary
• Let's try to embed the widget directly into the UI, but if that is not viable, we can create our own UI after implementing GraphQL API queries that generate addresses/invoices...

Contributor Profile A

Alice is an experienced software engineer who works full-time and expects to be paid $10K per month.

She works anywhere between 120-160 hours monthly, but does not expect her payment to change from month to month. She generally will try to minimize time spent on monotonous repetitive tasks by creating useful automations, freeing up her time for other things.

Contributor Profile B

Bob is a junior software developer fresh out of a coding bootcamp and is hungry to learn more and level up his skills and earning potential. He works a full-time job paying $5K per month and wants to work as much as possible to gain more experience and increase his pay.

He works anywhere between 140-180 hours monthly for the same $5K fixed payment.

Contributor Profile C

Chen is a freelance software engineer who works on several different projects at a time. She makes sure to track all of her time on each project so she can bill accordingly at a fixed hourly rate of $50/hr.

One project demands a small portion of her time and she is only paid for the time she works. She works 30 hours in 1 month and is paid $1500 whereas the next month she might work 50 hours and be paid $2500.

Different types of contributors have different expectations of how their rates and pay will change over time.

The Rates & Allocations models should provide a framework for negotiating these changes with Clients to make sure they continue to be paid at fair-market value.

We want the Rate model to capture the fixed or variable nature of the payment while establishing a bounded range of hours that may provide insight into whether a Contributor is being underpaid or overpaid.
