I am aware the codebase is not modern C++, and contains a lot of C-isms (ObjC-isms as well). While I am certainly open to improvements, there are hard contstraints to it, mainly:

• most of p44utils also still needs to build with a pre-C++11 toolchain

• the targets where p44utils is a core component are all footprint size sensitive. Generics tend to inflate footprint (and unfortunately so, the more, the older the toolchain, which makes generics especially problematic for the already most resource constrained older targets).

PRs with improvements within those constraints are certainly welcome and I will hopefully be able to merge them. Things like tighter scoping (like not using namespace std as suggested in the title) should be possible. On the other hand, I would not be able to maintain a more modernized fork in parallel - which does not mean that shouldn't be done, but it would need to be someone else's separate project for now.
