NCP Implementation and Host Platform Scope

Hi,

I’d like to ask about the current development status of the NCP implementation. Is there an expected completion or stabilization date for full NCP support?

Additionally:
Will the host-side implementation (e.g., ot-daemon, ot-ctl) be restricted to POSIX platforms only?
Is the full Thread network stack expected to be offloaded to the NCP side, with the host handling only application-level logic?

You can track the progress of NCP development in openthread/ot-br-posix#2398.

Initial target is posix platform. It should be technically possible to support other platforms. Contributions are welcome!

Thanks for quick response. For non-Thread interfaces like Ethernet or Wi-Fi, will their network stacks still reside on the host side, or is there any plan to offload those as well?

The NCP will only handle Thread-related functions. Any other offload is up to platform implementation.
