Where did I hear about this, and how does it work. Can files be pulled out from inside GDK?

Yes, they can be via the REDCap API. You need to get a token. I think you already tried that when testing out GenomeDK with one of our example repos.

Have you used it, it is different to the database as I understand it, but I will look into it more.

I haven't directly used it but someone did a walkthrough/demo for me of using it a few years ago.
