Because Xed is more of a middling notepad/notepad++/etc... and that it is likely to be used by a wide variety of systems, it is not possible for us to preempt what the likely use cases are.
I strongly feel Xed's default, out-of-box behavior should not be to auto-complete closing double quotes, etc.
Virtually all basic text area editors (web, notepad, nano, etc.) do not auto-complete closing quotes, and for new users, it is confusing and annoying. For a system-default editors, I believe it should be off.
If you do a double-quote, the "undo" behavior is to delete both your double-quote as well as the auto-inserted double quote.
Issue Brackets completion plugin - feature request #660 points out a number of other serious issues with bracket completion as it is currently implemented. (Though even if all of these were addressed, I don't believe the default behavior should be for the feature to be on.
While I might be off base somewhere here, I'd love to have a discussion about it.
