Keyboard layout switch delay & it triggers the "alt" menu in most applications

Bug description

Running a half-dozen of stations with a freshly-installed LDME 7. All of which went haywire following the 22.3 "upgrade":

1. lost all keyboard layouts
2. iBus got installed again making things even worse

Solution so far was to:
1)uninstall iBus
2) re-configure layouts through settings

However - functionality remains absolutely abysmal:

1. actual switching to other layouts is very incoherent, often requiring multiple attempts or/and pressing and holding for a considerable moment
2. "country flag" icon in the taskbar is squished
3. if "Alt+Shift" combination is assigned - in most programs it triggers the "alt" menu - shifting focus from the typing field
