This message is misleading. I'll explain in german:
"Wenn dies zu erwarten ist ..." bezieht sich strng genommen auf "Dies kann zu massiven Performance-Problemen führen". Das ist aber definitiv nicht gemeint.
There should be some text stating that the limit can be encreased if AFTER CHECKING EXISTING STATES this high number of states is considered really required.
Background:
Currently user tend to simply encrease the limit without even checking which states exist and if they are usefull. I.e. tesla-mptors created a new state for every token refrech resultiung in thousends of unneeded states. fb-presence keeps states for every device senn any time in past ... User should first perform a cleanup and / or raise a issue at the related adapter. But currently the text suggests the only thing to do is to encrease the limit.
