Edit current prompt in editor?

Having set my editor with /editor, I'm trying to open the editor to edit the current prompt with multiple lines, pasted material, etc. Is there a command to open the current prompt in my editor?

? Gemini CLI has most of that right now, I do not understand the problem, see the Readme with the keyboard shortcuts.
If you need a full GUI for your input, then just use any other editor and paste the text back.
CLI is a CLI, but OTOH see #2841 (comment) where it expanded to browser's GUI pacem the author of this code, testing it right now...

Currently, there is no command to open the current, in-progress prompt in your external editor.

The /editor command is used to configure which editor gemini-cli will use for other tasks, such as when a tool needs to open a file for you to view or edit. It sets the editor, but it doesn't provide a mechanism to launch it for editing the prompt buffer itself.

For writing multi-line prompts or pasting large blocks of text, the intended workflow is to do one of the following:

1. Paste Directly: Copy the text from your editor or another source and paste it directly into the gemini-cli input box.
2. Use Shift+Enter: Most terminals support Shift+Enter to add a newline within the prompt without submitting it.

So, the recommended approach for complex input is to compose it in your preferred text editor, then copy and paste it into the CLI.

Please reconsider this. Ctrl-g to pop open my prompt in a proper editor is the main thing I miss coming from Claude Code.
