Error discovering tools from MCP server: can't resolve reference

When I install gemini-cli via npm, and query my MCP server, the CLI sees the server but is not able to successfully list the tools. I get an error: Error discovering tools from air-quality: can't resolve reference #/$defs/GeocodePlacenameResponse from id #

the gemini-cli installed via npm: not working

One might think that the MCP Server itself is broken. but I cloned and built the source via npm run build and npm run bundle, and when I run gemini-cli from that build, I do not see that error. This uses the same settings.json, the same MCP server.

Does anyone have any hints as to what's going on?

If I use older versions (0.15.1, etc) I get the same behavior - the MCP Server is shown but it cannot load the tools.

#13053 seems similar, but not sure.
