Failed to install Python environment (EIM-385)

Description

Installation fails with "Failed to install Python environment" error.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Try install esp-idf using "Easy Installation" or "Custom Installation".
2. Do not change any defaults settings, or make any changes you want.
3. Get "Failed to install Python environment" error.

Additional Information

Tested on two Windows 11 machines.
In "Custom Installation" I tried installing 5.5 and 6.0 and did not change default installation path.
In "Easy Installation" I did not change any settings.

Hi @alexander-sorokin sorry but at the moment esp-idf does not support this version. Kindly install a compatible version currently these are supported only
Python 3.11 to 3.13

Kindly fix the Python version check in the app. It has "Python Sanity Check" and passes it successfully.

By the way, why can the ESP-IDF extension for VS Code install all I need?

Thanks for the report and the follow-up.

We’ll add an explicit Python version check in one of the upcoming releases, so the installer will clearly notify users when an unsupported version (such as Python 3.14) is detected. This should prevent the “Python Sanity Check” from passing incorrectly.

Regarding the VS Code ESP-IDF extension: many users do not work exclusively in VS Code. They develop with Eclipse, CLion, custom editors, or purely from the command line. Because of this, relying on the VS Code extension to perform all installation steps would be very inconvenient for a large part of the community. To avoid maintaining multiple installation paths and keep the overall process consistent, EIM is the single supported installation method outside the IDE integrations.

If you do choose to use VS Code, please note that you should use the pre-release version of the ESP-IDF extension when working with environments installed by EIM. It contains fixes and improvements necessary for smooth interoperability.
