You need two users set up (one can be host of course), and send a message from one to the other.
For the recipient, set notifications to instant:

From the sender account, compose a message

Recipient will receive an email (I use papercut as an email proxy / test smtp)

Awesome, thank you! I really haven't seen that stuff in almost 10 years. I have the message going between the two users, but there is no Notification happening. I feel like I've missed something in setup. You mentioned SMTP... does that need to be set up?

Yes, this is an issue with the email notifications, so you need to have some way to send/receive email.

You should probably improve the description above. I completely missed that you meant the email notification. I thought this was something in the Activity Feed, Message UI Notifications tab on the site.

I duplicated the error but in my "modern MS Outlook" I have no obvious way to see the HTML of the arriving email message/notification. If you are able to do that, it would probably help to post the HTML of the logo output from the email (or the whole thing). Most likely that will make the problem obvious.

I HATE the MODERN outlook for exactly that reason!!

Okay, I got the HTML. So now - it appears to be an Outlook problem. The HTML looks okay to me and in the SmarterMail web email client, the message with an SVG logo works fine.

Outlook blocks SVG for the purposes of security it is a recent change, nothing we can do there - https://captainverify.com/blog/end-images-svg-outlook.html as just one example.

We would need to try and have fallback or otherwise.
