Hi Martin,

I was glancing through some of the WIP meeting notes and noticed this from 3/20/18:

If any names appearing in data request release 01.00.21 (or later) end up getting corrected in a subsequent release (before the freeze!), a modeling group may elect to reprocess their files with the corrected names or leave the uncorrected names in place. For the small number of names in this category, a user will either need to use the variable *name* (not the standard name) in searching ESGF or search for both the uncorrected and corrected version of the standard name. Only the corrected standard name will be strictly CMIP6CF compliant.

We should provide a machine-accessible file where the uncorrected and corrected standard_names would be listed. We need to determine what kind of purposes (use cases) this would serve, but one option would be to create a simple json file with a dictionary of all standard names that have been changed with both old and new name (not sure which would the key and which the value).

Is there any value in doing this? Not sure whether it's worth the effort.
