Is it possible/Planned v2 to allow design of the portal page? I'd like to put the courses below my header, right where currently the "most popular" appears.
When is V2, and will it affect the existing courses?

You already can do it, but you have to have sme knowledge in development....
Alle home page parts are made of blocs. You need to hack the code and rework the blocs as you wish.
If I understand your request, you want to have the course catalog displayed on the main page?
You can do that just publishing the catalog (make it visible in Administration). This then just create a new tab when you're not registered and you still have the front page as it is.
Then, again, I guess you'll cheat quite easily and put it on the main page if you really want this.
