Description
Historically it was wind generation that would trigger negative prices on particularly windy days, but over the last year or so it seems that solar generation has also been tipping the balance towards low/negative wholesale prices on sunny days.
It would be interesting to analyse how the wholesale and imbalance price correlates to the solar generation that we see at our sites, for two main reasons:
- In Skypro we have been using historical Solar profiles and historical pricing profiles - if there is a strong correlation between solar generation and pricing then we should ensure that we are always using profiles for the same times. I.e. we don't want to be using solar generation profiles from 2024 and pricing profiles from 2025 as that would give us innacurate results.
- It would be good to understand generally as it influences the battery business case more widely. At the moment solar farms can get pretty good rate on PPA arrangements, but if there is going to be increasing cannabilisation, then it reinforces the business case for co-located batteries.
