Adding and Styling Content

By installing the Athena Shortcodes and WP Shortcode Interface plugins, you'll have access to a suite of advanced WYSIWYG editing tools and an interface that lets you pick and customize shortcodes to insert into your page content.

Most advanced layouts can be achieved by utilizing a combination of Athena grid columns, jumbotrons, cards, and utility classes, but keep in mind that duplicate shortcodes cannot be nested--e.g. you cannot nest a [col] shortcode within another [col]. We strongly recommend that content editors familiarize themselves with the Athena Framework's documentation to understand the components and utilities provided by the theme, and to review the documentation on the Athena Shortcodes plugin to understand how to structure supported components with shortcodes.

Adding Full-Width Content

To add full-width content to a page or post, such as a jumbotron, you'll need to use the Full Width template so that content is not confined within a container. Note that not all post types support the Full Width template.

To wrap non-full-width content on the page in a fixed width container, wrap that content in a [container] shortcode; e.g.:

[container]
Fixed width content...
[/container]

[jumbotron]
This content spans the full width of the screen!
[/jumbotron]

[container]
More fixed width content...
[/container]

Re-using Chunks of Content

By installing the UCF Section plugin, you'll be able to insert reusable chunks of content on any page or post, which can all take advantage of Athena Framework components and utilities, and shortcodes provided by other plugins. Whenever you make an update to a section, those updates will take effect on every page the section is included on automatically.

In addition, the UCF Spotlights plugin provides more focused reusable content types, with specific templates intended for use in specific ways--for instance, the vertical spotlight layout is great within sidebars. Updates to spotlights, like sections, will also populate onto pages that include them automatically.

Updating Degree Information

The UCF Degree Post Type plugin comes with an importer tool that pulls in degree data from UCF Marketing's search service (currently, this has to be run manually using WP CLI). Using this importer ensures you have up-to-date catalog information for undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

You can override the short description provided by the search service by adding an excerpt to the degree post. Additionally, any post content will be displayed underneath the short description. You can also add arbitrary extra content to the right-hand sidebar of the degree profile using the "Custom Sidebar Content" meta field.

If you'd like to maintain a completely custom degree that doesn't get updated with degree data imports, make sure to check the "Ignore On Import" meta checkbox.
