Was a similar question a bout gradebook not recording information correct but that was more about immediate vs. delayed updated?

What Page were you on
I'm using Course Analytics > Chapter Activity to try to track participation (https://author.runestone.academy/runestone/dashboard/subchapoverview). The book is ISCAM and the course is chance_ISCAM_winter25.

Describe the bug
When I look at the Student List under Manage students. There are about 5 students that appear there (one twice) but who do not appear in the Activity report.

So I have no activity data for
Elijah Cline
Romeo Galvin
Cedar Poulsen
Justin Szeto
Sanjini Thambala
Sam Zieserl

We have reviewed how to make sure they are clicking submit etc.

Javascript Errors
Many many errors can be quickly diagnosed from the Javascript Console error log. On Chrome this is View --> Developer --> Javascript Console, on Safari ⌥⌘i or Develop --> Show Web Inspector on Firefox Tools --> Web Developer --> Toggle Tools. Please select all and paste it here. Don't try to guess what might be useful. This is perhaps the most useful thing you can do to help us track down a problem!!

I would start by downloading the raw logs for your course. For example I can see that elijahcline has no recorded data except for about 10 page loads of investigation-1-10.html

Yes, that is what I see as well but the student claims to have been completing the assignments, so we aren’t sure why they are not appearing in the logs. I’m wondering if this case (Cline) could be due to having multiple accounts? But similar issue for justindaneszeto who only has one account. Other cases (e.g.,grantdowns, ekussman) do show up in the logs, but not in the chapter activity reports. I see work being saved for justindaneszeto as of today. There are four entries from January 5th and then nothing until today where there is a bunch of work.

Saving student work is one of the things that just works, and works reliably for thousands of students. If there is any kind of error due to network trouble or whatever, students will get a dialog saying their work was not saved. Any time students claim we are not saving their work it comes down to them not being logged in or not being truthful about doing the work or in very rare cases some weird plugin they have installed in their browser.

Hi, So I’m not sure what to tell some of these students. For example I see lots of entries for ekussman in the log but not in the chapter activity report? What should they be doing differently? Justin is still not showing up in the Chapter Activity Report, or might that take some time? Its really hard to figure this out with generalities. So you say you can see work for ekussman in the log Do you specifically see that they have done work for a particular chapter that you are looking at the chapter activity report for? If so, please tell me the ids and the specific chapter of your book that you feel is not working.

Students cannot see the chapter activity report. How are you using it? Are you not making assignments and trying to base some kind of grading on that report?

If there is no work on a particular page then the student just doesn't show up in the report for that page. That is on the todo list for fixing some day.

And no, there is no delay. The report is based on the database as it exists at the time you view the report. Student work is saved to the same database as they do their work.

I’m looking across several pages And no, I don’t make assignments (and my Canvas folks never got back to me so nothing is integrated, I’m trying to do this all annually but also need to be able to refresh the counts if that makes sense). A page view is not an activity with respect to the Chapter Activity report. They would need to interact with a question of some kind, and I'm sorry I'm not familiar with your book or how you are writing it to even know how many interactive kinds of questions you have on the pages.

Also, I don't think I'm seeing your full responses as you appear to be responding via email, which doesn't include images. It would be helpful if you could take a look at the issue on github in your browser and fill in the blanks for me.

OK, I'm worried that there is something not right with your book. As I am looking at the identifiers in the database I'm seeing things like: __I1.8a and __Tech1.8.CC.combined These should be preceded by the document-id for your book like: iscam__Tech1.8.CC.combined
