Error loading rMIDAS

Hello, I am trying to load rMIDAS in R but get the following error when running library(rMIDAS):

Error: package or namespace load failed for ‘rMIDAS’:
 .onLoad failed in loadNamespace() for 'rMIDAS', details:
  call: if (grepl("^3\\.(6|7|8|9|10).*|^3\\.(6|7|8|9|10)-dev$", current_version)) {
  error: argument is of length zero

It looks like a compatibility issue?

Hi, thanks for flagging this issue. I believe this error stems from not being able to detect Python on your system. To interface with Python, we use the reticulate R package, and specifically on loading we call reticulate::py_discover_config() whichis failing to find a Python install.

To troubleshoot, you could try:

1. Uninstalling rMIDAS
2. Installing reticulate (i.e. install.packages("reticulate") and call reticulate::install_python()
3. Re-install rMIDAS and call library(rMIDAS)

If you then get the same/different error message, please do share and we can look into this further. If so, it would help if you could let us know what version(s) of Python you have on your system.

In the meantime, I will flag this type of error as an issue our package can handle more gracefully in a future release!
