6.9.4 and 6.9.6 freezes after first ensemble with stations found in scan

Hi,

I'm in the UK using an RTL stick (Noelec Smart V5). 6.9.2 V4 version works fine but newer versions get stuck at the first ensemble when scanning. The stations in the ensemble appear in the main window and work but the scan window never progresses past the first ensemble detected. Disabling the first ensemble in the scan just gets to a new first ensemble and the same thing happens.

Also something is odd with TII in all 3 versions. The graph in TII spectrum show a clear 4 spikes (I think this is normal) for most ensembles but the DX Display never shows anything. Not sure if maybe a Germany/Europe specific lookup is breaking the DX Display.

Update: TII does work in 6.9.6 (Broken in 6.9.2) but scan is still broken in 6.9.6. I can scan in 6.9.2 and then load 6.9.6 for a working combination at least.

Scan in 6.9.6 just stops as shown in the picture. I have left it 20mins before and it does not progress:

Disabling 8B just causes the same problem at the next ensemble in the scan.

Per channel - if some form of data is detected, the software will - with this setting 10 minutes wait until it moves to the next channel. This was added on request of some people. I hope you don't mind a much more general question.

I now have the TII / transmitter details for each ensemble which should help with pointing my roof aerial. My DAB stick currently has gain set to 240, any idea what gain level would be equivalent to a typical hifi DAB radio? My aerial signal booster/splitter is currently set to 0dB gain and I'm trying to find a reasonable boost value before looking at antenna pointing. Peak signal in the Spectrum graph for the strongest Ensemble is about -17dB currently. SNR for this strong ensemble seems low at about 9dB.

I do not us a dabstick quite often I prefer the SDRplay. If I use either, I always set the AVG. My antnna equipmeent is limited, I do not have a yagi or even a dipole, I use a simple whip, depending on the experiment next to me when stiing in the living room, or somtimes on th attick The spectrum window tells the SNR of the signal, The SNR is measured as ratio between th Frame elements with signal and the null period, preceding that. On average an SNR > 6 db leads to decoding the ensemble content dscriotion and- depending on the protection applid to the service, audible or visible result. One more remark If you have a really good antenna in use with a danstik type device, finding the good gain setting is important. fter all the sticks deliver 8 bit values, and for good decodeing of DAB signals you need more than 6 db, say 8. That means the the signal has (at least) 3 bits more signal than the noise level. Even with my simple stick (or I use a youloop sometimes although not very suitable for the frequencies), I get if I setgain too high an overload. Thanks for the info. Raising the gain much above 240 on the stick causes issues. For now I have 0 stick gain and 3dB mast gain which seems to give slightly better SNR results. A distant ensemble has some audio issues and shows SNR of 6dB. Ensembles with 7 or 9 seem fine and some are showing as high as 30dB SNR.

Is the strength reading in the TII data of any use for determining gain? (I'm seeing -0.8 to -0.4 for most ensembles with one local ensemble occasionally hitting -0.0 although this ensemble only has an SNR of 7dB)

One last thing maybe 25% of the time when I change to a station in a different ensemble within favourites I get no audio (Spectrum scope shows data but other status windows show very little). If I then click the same station within the ensemble view it always works. Is there a setting I need to tweak?
