When I try to run bot.py, I get errors. It seems like there is invalid input for the token. At the end of the error message, it says "expected token to be a str, received NoneType instead". I followed the instructions in the readme and created an .env file with the text DISCORD_TOKEN='my-token'. I have also installed all the required packages, but it is still not working, and I can't figure out why. Is there anything else I should do?

I think you are missing a dot, try renaming env to .env

I've tried that, many times, I thought that the problem is with the name of the file, but I've tried many forms and formats of env and .env or env.something, and I only found out that the error message is longer if the name is .env than if the name is only env.

Reading from .env file now works but you need to enable message content intent for bot, try this tutorial.
